Austin, Texas reporters have catalogued another daily high of deaths related to the coronavirus illness. The state has even reported a small decrease in COVID-19 positive cases, but those who test positive do not always carry symptoms, and may not be testing themselves even as they infect other people.

The Department of State Health Services reported back on Wednesday that the COVID-19 death rate has hit another record at 197 deaths. This tops the previous daily high of 174 COVID-19 deaths from last Friday, July 17. This brings the death toll in Texas to 4,348 as of the end of day Wednesday, July 24.

The previous week had seen 10,000 cases per day, while this week the highest number of reported cases was 9,879. This brings the total positive COVID-19 cases to 351,618, since the state started tracking the coronavirus outbreak back in mid-march. (FOX 26).

The number of cases is still likely to be skewed because positive tests do not mean every individual is symptomatic, and those infected may not feel sick.
