The coronavirus has brought hardships, whether it be financial or emotional. The world is learning to adjust along the way. Two students Vanesha Hari and Varshini Hari co-founded Joys of Giving and decided to use their nonprofit to help those in need.

Joys of Giving began in 2016 when the Hari's realized the homeless problem and unprivileged youth issues in the city of Seattle—raised money through fundraisers. They realized education is essential to a successful future and focused on STEM programs.

As the coronavirus pandemic started, Hari began to brainstorm ways to help the members of her community.

"We are currently working on several summer STEM workshops, coding classes, bake sales, tutoring, and other creative ideas to raise funds for businesses impacted by COVID-19 and help our community," said Hari.

The girls had to adjust to the new day of life as their normal activities got canceled.

"We were disappointed," said the Hari's. "However, we started to shift and focus our energy on what we can do at such unprecedented times and help the betterment of our community. We looked around us to identify who needed help during COVID-19 and how many businesses and nonprofits needed help. We began to identify what skills and talents we can bring to help our community and youth."

The girls noticed the impact of their local school district was going through due to the epidemic and donated to the Lake Washington School Foundation. The Hari's raised $2000 through baking workshops to donate to the foundation.

Both Vanesha and Varshini continue to be motivated as they see their efforts are making a difference.

"Sometimes, we feel it's just such an instinct for us to be of service and be there for someone who needs help, especially when we are privileged and blessed. It just feels so natural to help and be kind when we can give." said the girls.
