At about 5 AM Thursday, police were called to a home in the 5700 block of East 27th Street for a reported domestic violence assault. The caller said that a man fired shots at her during an argument. She apparently was not hit, but got away and called police.

On arrival, officers made contact with a man in front of the home. He fired at least one shot, and an officer returned fire. The man then retreated into the residence. Officers surrounded the house and called an Operation 100, or barricaded subject. Tactical resources and negotiators responded to the scene.

Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said, "We do not believe that anyone was struck by the gunfire. No officers have been injured. There is no indication at this time that anyone else is inside the residence with the male."

Negotiators are attempting to contact the man in the residence in an effort to negotiate a peaceful surrender.

KCPD will be investigating the domestic violence/aggravated assault complaint. The Missouri Highway Patrol has been contacted to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
