The Washington Attorney General has filed 30 felony animal cruelty charges against Angela Jacobsen of Sequim in Clallam County Superior Court. The charges relate to the discovery of many animals in poor conditions on Jacobsen's property. These animals, including dogs, turkeys, pheasants, goats, and others, were found in unclean environments without adequate food or water. Many were malnourished, dehydrated, and injured.

The case began when the Welfare for Animals Guild reported the conditions in December 2021. Clallam County Sheriff’s officers then removed over 200 animals from the property in early 2022. These animals were cared for by a local rescue organization, which provided medical treatment and rehabilitation. The charges focus on the animals found in the worst condition.

Assistant Attorneys General Scott Halloran and Courtney Blackburn are managing the legal proceedings. Veterinary records show many animals were close to death from starvation or severe dehydration when rescued. The charges include specific counts related to 13 geese, eight ducks, six chickens and roosters, two dogs, and an emu.

The Attorney General’s Environmental Protection Division is prosecuting the case, following a referral from the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney. This referral was necessary as the Attorney General’s Office cannot start criminal investigations on its own without direction from a county prosecutor or the governor. The case is conducted under the Rules of Professional Conduct to ensure a fair trial and uphold the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
