The San Francisco Police Department's Traffic Unit conducted a DUI saturation patrol on April 20, resulting in three arrests for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and several citations issued to drivers violating traffic laws.
During the patrol, which took place from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., officers conducted a total of 22 traffic stops and issued 10 citations. Notably, two of the citations were issued to unlicensed drivers, one of whom was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
The primary focus of the saturation patrol was to target impaired driving and promote road safety. SFPD emphasizes that well-publicized DUI checkpoints and patrols can significantly reduce crashes involving impaired drivers by up to 20%.
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs carries serious consequences, including jail time, fines, fees, mandatory DUI classes, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000. SFPD underscores the importance of making responsible choices behind the wheel to prevent unnecessary tragedies and ensure the safety of all road users.
