JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. — The picturesque town of Jonesborough is set to broaden the horizon for its residents and visitors by extending the Lost State Scenic Walkway. This initiative aims to enhance local recreation and connectivity. With plans to gather public feedback, the town has scheduled a critical meeting to discuss this promising $490,000 project.

On Thursday, May 9, at 6 p.m., town officials will convene at the Jonesborough Visitors Center to present the details of the trail's proposed expansion. The extension would stretch from Mill Spring Park to Stage Road Park, threading through the heart of downtown Jonesborough, past its quaint shops, bustling restaurants, and the historic Jackson Theatre.

"This project not only aims to beautify and unify various parts of our town but also to make outdoor activities more accessible to our residents," stated a town spokesperson in a recent press release. Attendees of the meeting can expect a comprehensive presentation, followed by a session to voice opinions or raise concerns regarding the trail’s development.

The proposed trail will bridge several key locations within Jonesborough, including a direct connection to Mountain View Estates, a community comprising approximately 124 single-family homes, and residential areas along South Cherokee Street. This initiative reflects the town’s commitment to fostering a pedestrian-friendly environment that encourages community interaction and outdoor activities.

Funding for the project is partially sought through a grant from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Recreation Education Services. "The application for the grant is a crucial step in bringing this project to fruition, reflecting our dedication to improving local facilities through sustainable and community-focused urban planning," explained the spokesperson.

Residents like Emily Horton expressed enthusiasm about the project. "Connecting different parts of the town with a scenic walkway will make it easier to enjoy what Jonesborough offers and boost local businesses," Horton noted.

The Jonesborough Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will also discuss the grant application at its next meeting on April 25 at the same venue. The outcome of these discussions will significantly influence the project's direction and funding.

For more details on the project or to view the proposal presentation, residents and interested parties are encouraged to visit the town’s official website or contact Rachel Conger at the provided phone numbers.

As Jonesborough looks to its future, the expansion of the Lost State Scenic Walkway represents a pivotal step in enhancing the town's charm and livability. It promises a blend of historical allure and modern convenience for all who traverse its path.
