Teacher fired for educating on "white privilege" to share his story

The Tennessee Coalition for Truth in Education is hosting a webinar tonight (April 17th, 2024) on teaching about race in a K-12 setting.

The event will feature former Tennessee teacher Matthew Hawn, who was fired after teaching a lesson on white privilege to a group of high school students.

In a statement announcing the webinar, the coalition said:

"Our coalition firmly holds that the firing or threatening of teachers who teach about racism is unacceptable. To be unable to teach about America’s historical racism is to perpetuate that racism today."
