Two burglary suspects were apprehended by the Tracy Police Department on Monday after they allegedly rammed a police vehicle while attempting to flee from authorities. The incident unfolded following a series of reports of auto burglaries and thefts throughout the day, prompting a vigilant response from law enforcement.
According to the Tracy Police Department, multiple calls concerning auto burglary and theft were received on Monday. The suspects reportedly operated a green Dodge Charger linked to the reported criminal activity.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, a Tracy PD officer spotted a green Dodge Charger matching the suspect vehicle's description parked at the Motel 6 in the 3800 block of North Tracy Boulevard. The officer, awaiting backup for surveillance, observed two individuals identified as Enrique Antunez, 34, and Karris Garcia, 32, entering the Charger.
As the suspects attempted to leave the parking lot, the officer moved to detain them. However, the driver of the Charger, later identified as Antunez, swiftly reversed the vehicle and rammed into the marked Tracy PD vehicle, which was occupied by a uniformed officer.
Despite the collision, assisting units quickly intervened and successfully disabled the suspect vehicle, allowing officers to detain Antunez and Garcia without further escalation.
Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the altercation.
Enrique Antunez, 34, and Karris Garcia, 32, both residents of Fremont, were taken into custody following the incident. They are currently facing charges related to burglary, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, and evading arrest.
The Tracy Police Department commended the swift and coordinated response of its officers and assisting units, ensuring the safe apprehension of the suspects and the prevention of further harm.
