Supporters of the protestors arrested during a demonstration on the Golden Gate Bridge on Monday have gathered outside the San Francisco jail, demanding the release of 25 individuals who remain in custody following the incident.

The rally comes in response to the arrest of 26 individuals by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) during the demonstration, which resulted in the temporary closure of the iconic bridge and disruption of traffic. The protest was part of a coordinated international effort that also saw similar demonstrations shutting down major public thoroughfares across the Bay Area.

District Attorney Brooke Jenkins of San Francisco issued a statement acknowledging the arrests and emphasizing the need to balance free speech with public safety.

The arrested individuals face multiple misdemeanor charges and a single felony charge of conspiracy, pending a charging decision scheduled for today by 4:00 PM.

Jenkins commended the efforts of law enforcement agencies, including the CHP, San Francisco Police Department, and San Francisco Sheriff's Department, in handling the situation peacefully.

Due to the felony charge and ongoing investigation, the district attorney's office requires more time to review individual cases and determine appropriate charges based on evidence and facts. Jenkins affirmed that charging decisions will be made objectively, guided by the law, and not influenced by political pressure.

The district attorney's office has encouraged anyone affected by the demonstration or arrests to come forward with their statements to aid in the investigation. Victims of false imprisonment during the incident are urged to contact the CHP at 415-924-1105 or chpmarin@chp.ca.gov to assert their rights under Marsy's Law and potentially seek restitution.
