Motorists should expect overnight and daytime lane closures as bridge and traffic signal projects progress.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has announced a series of lane closures on Route 4 and Van Nostrand Avenue in Englewood, Bergen County, this week due to ongoing construction projects. The closures are part of the $20.7 million federally funded Jones Road Bridge Replacement Project and traffic signal installation at Van Nostrand Avenue.

Overnight Lane Closures on Route 4

The right lane of Route 4 westbound will be closed from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, until 6 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, to facilitate the installation of bridge girders for the Jones Road Bridge. Motorists are advised that at least one lane will remain open, but they should anticipate delays and use caution in the construction zone.

Further closures are scheduled for Route 4 eastbound and westbound from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, and again on Thursday, April 18. These closures will allow for the installation of an overhang platform on the Jones Road Bridge. At least one lane on the westbound side and two lanes on the eastbound side will be maintained.

Another overnight closure is planned for the right lane on Route 4 westbound from 11 p.m. Friday, April 19, until 7 a.m. Saturday, April 20, to continue work on the overhang platform.

Daytime Lane Closures on Van Nostrand Avenue

Daytime construction will affect Van Nostrand Avenue westbound, where the right lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, and Thursday, April 18. The closures will occur at the intersection with Grand Avenue for the installation of traffic signal foundations. At least two lanes will remain open to traffic.

On Friday, April 19, the left lane on Van Nostrand Avenue westbound will be closed at the same intersection and during the same hours for continued traffic signal work.

Project Details and Commuter Information

The Jones Road Bridge replacement aims to raise the bridge by three feet to improve clearance over Route 4. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2025.

Motorists are encouraged to plan additional travel time or consider alternate routes. Real-time travel updates can be accessed at NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org. Weather conditions or other unforeseen factors may affect the construction schedule.
