The monster who killed a mom, 20, and left her one-year-old daughter to die in a hot car has finally been arrested after two years on the run.
Doujon Griffith, 23, was arrested in Linden, New Jersey on Friday after cops pulled him over for a traffic stop and realized he had two outstanding warrants for first degree murder.
On September 9, 2021, officers from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office located Massania Malcolm’s car and found her and her daughter Jordania’s dead bodies inside.
Deputies said that the toddler died from being left in the hot car after her mother was shot by Griffith.
Police investigations have connected Griffith to the shooting of a male victim who was Malcolm’s boyfriend and the baby’s father.
‘No matter how many years have passed, we never forget our victims, and we hope this arrest brings some sense of peace and closure to our community and the two families shattered by this horrible tragic case,’ Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on X.
Days before the mother and daughter were found, police responded to a call around 5am at the 1900 block of Lake Heritage Circle of shots being fired.
When they arrived, they found a man in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds who told officers that he was shot by a ‘friend.’
A family member of the unidentified male victim called the police to report that he was not able to get in contact with Malcolm.
Police then visited the couple’s apartment and saw that no one was home and that there were no signs of foul play, OrlandoNews.com reported.
The boyfriend, who later regained consciousness after surgery, told detectives that when he was shot by Griffith, his girlfriend and baby were in the car with him.
According to the sheriff’s office, the male victim told officers that after he was shot, he remembered that Griffith had driven away in the car with Malcolm and Jordania still inside.
Malcolm’s heartbroken mother, Latoya Reid, previously told FOX 35 Orlando that she tried to contact her daughter and her boyfriend, however, there was no answered.
She said that the couple were trying to help Griffith after he moved in with them in August 2021.
‘I saw a car marked homicide team and my heart sunk,’ Reid said after her daughter and granddaughter were found dead.
In response to Griffith’s long awaited arrest, Reid was seen in an emotional video as she reacted to the bitter sweet news.
‘Friends and supporters and well wishers, today, March 22, 2024, I’m coming live to let you know that the police has arrested Doujon Duwayne Griffiths,’ Reid said as she cried uncontrollably.
‘Justice,’ she added.
The Griffiths will be extradited to Orange County, Florida and will be charged with first degree murder. He may also face a charge of attempted murder for shooting the mother’s boyfriend.
