Accountable.us exposes shady industry connections that harm consumers

A consumer advocacy group is calling out a popular influencer known as "The Points Guy" for what they say are shady connections that harm his followers.

Accountable.us alleges that Brian Kelly, aka The Points Guy, uses his platforms to steer consumers to vendors in a way that boosts his bottom line but that may also harm the buyer.

“Planning a big financial decision is tough enough without navigating misleading endorsements paid for by big bank industry CEOs and lobbyists,” said Accountable.US’ Liz Zelnick. “Online influencers like Brian Kelly might be selling a ‘first class dream,’ but their lifestyles are paid for by big industry players. The Biden administration’s effort to ensure access to clear, fair financial advice will help everyday Americans save money and avoid big credit card industry tricks, traps and junk fees.”

The report by Accountable.us details Kelly's business relationships with credit card issuers such as Capital One, American Express, and Chase and notes that Kelly pushes products that provide him more compensation rather than those that may be best for a consumer's needs.
