With the housing costs in New York City going from crazy to super-duper insanely crazy, I can see why some New Yorkers, old and new, are looking for ways to save on rent and try to fit their entire lives into cramped space, all so they could afford rent and not end up in a financial jam. This is why videos and interviews showcasing ultra-cheap rent for under $1,000 or so are so popular. People cannot believe that someone in this city got a steal and can properly breathe after paying their monthly expenses.

A local NYC creator, Caleb Simpson (not sponsored or affiliated), known for his "How much rent are you paying in New York City?" videos, posted a video of a young woman whose rent is only $500/month. To date, the video received almost 40 million views and a lot of dropped jaws.

The girl takes viewers on a very short tour of her tiny apartment that looks more like a room. Somehow, not only was she able to fit a twin bed and a minuscule kitchen space there, but she also had a private bathroom! It's small but cozy. This space was enough not only for her but for her (very cute) cat!

While I cannot see myself being able to fit all my stuff into such a tiny space, it's nice to know there are folks out there who can live in New York without making a bank. Would every single person agree to rent such a small apartment? I don't think so. But it's a good starter space.
