CFPB takes action against Consumer Relief Group

A company that purported to offer foreclosure relief to consumers in crisis financial situations has been fined $12 million by a key federal regulator.

Consumer Relief Group said it offered homeowners facing foreclosure a way out of their distress. Instead, the company tricked customers out of more than $10 million while not helping them address pending foreclosure action.

The CFPB won its original suit against Consumer Relief Group in 2019. Since then, the company has been appealing judgments against it. With the recent enforcement action, the case comes to a close.

Consumers who were defrauded by the scam will receive compensation from the fine. Additionally, the company will pay a $1 million penalty to the CFPB's victim relief fund.
