In the early hours of February 17, 2024, tragedy struck at the intersection of Bristol Street and Alton Avenue in Santa Ana, as the Santa Ana Police Department responded to multiple calls reporting a traffic collision at 3:55 a.m.
Santa Ana Police Officers, accompanied by the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), swiftly arrived at the scene to discover a collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle. Regrettably, the bicyclist, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced deceased at the scene by OCFA responders.
According to the preliminary investigation conducted by the Santa Ana Police Department, the incident unfolded as the vehicle, traveling northbound on Bristol Street toward Alton Avenue, collided with a bicyclist crossing eastbound across the northbound lanes. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, demonstrating cooperation with law enforcement during their arrival, police said.
As of now, investigators are yet to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
The Santa Ana Police Department's Collision Investigations Unit (CIU) has taken charge of the ongoing investigation, diligently working to uncover the details surrounding the tragic incident.
