Cow Rescued After Being Stuck in Mudslide

On Monday, February 12, 2024 local Ranchers contacted the Santa Barbara County Fire Department for assistance with an animal rescue, a cow stuck in mud. The cow was discovered stuck in mud after a mudslide in the remote area was suspected of happening the previous day.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, crews utilized an ATV before walking the rest of the way to access the cow. Firefighters needed to dig, pry, roll, and use wood planks for leverage during the 5-hour rescue effort, before finally freeing the cow.

Firefighters were assisted by Santa Barbara County Animal Control as well as the Ranchers to free the cow.

Once the very exhausted cow was freed, it was covered with a blanket to stay warm while resting overnight while observed by Ranchers.
