It is a one day break from the recent stretch of gloom and doom weather. It won't be a picture perfect day but patchy morning fog that is around this morning as well as general low cloud cover should give way to some breaks of sunshine. Most places are starting out the day in the lower 40s so I think most highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s. At least the radars are quiet so other than some spotty light drizzle that might be around early, this will be the first day in 5 that we will not have any rain anywhere from Eastern Pennsylvania to New Jersey east to Southern New England. Most highs today will be in the upper 40s to some lower 50s.

The 4th and what will be the last in a series of storm system coming out of the Gulf States will be moving across the Deep South today with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and severe weatther from Alabama to Georgia and the Carolinas. Flood Watches are posted for much of this area adding to 6 inch plus rain amounts that have occurred in the past week. Low pressure takes a track up the Appalachians and then redevelops off the Delaware coast Sunday and Sunday night.

There is cold air coming down into Eastern Canada however this system is coming out faster and will not be timing with a building high in Southeastern Canada. We have been underwhelmed by this set up all week long and continue to remain so. Rain develops during the early morning hours from south to north, New Jersey to Southern New England as well as in Pennsylvania. Areas mostly north of Route 84 in New York and Southern New England will see an elevation driven snowfall of several inches or more in some places. If you look at the National Weather Service snow forecast map you can see the darker blue areas of 4 to 6 inches or more are over mountainous areas like the Central and Northern Catskills in NY, the Berkshires in Western Connecticut and Massachusetts, and the southern extent of the White Mountains in Northern Massachusetts. In between those mountains, far less falls in valleys and this is due to the lack of any cold air. To the South of Route 84 it will be mostly on and off rain Sunday. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. As the low pulls away Sunday night areas south of Route 84 could see some mixing but other than that, for the I-95 Corridor this is a non event.

After a week of wet weather and gloom and doom, next week is shaping up to be a mostly dry and quiet week with temperatures a little above average for this time of year. Monday we should see improving weather conditions with some sunshine developing and highs in the low to middle 40s. It is conceivable that we may actually go through all of next week with little or no rain or snow in the forecast. The longer range pattern could turn active again as we head into February but we have some time before we have anything important to deal with.
