A 35-year-old man was shot by a Texas DPS agent Thursday morning at a Quick Trip gas station in Conroe. Following the shooting, first responders administered life-saving measures, and the individual was reported to be in stable condition upon transportation to HCA Conroe. According to the man's family member, he underwent surgery and is in stable condition.
The Department of Public Safety states that troopers and the Criminal Investigation Division were engaged in a narcotics investigation when the shooting transpired.
At the scene of the incident was a black car displaying at least six bullet holes in the front windshield and the driver's side window. The vehicle was parked over a sidewalk. Both the suspect's car and one of the two Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trucks present exhibited damage consistent with a collision.
It's worth noting that a spokesman for the department refrained from confirming the specific events that led to the damage on the vehicles or the shooting itself. However, it was clarified that only one law enforcement agent discharged their weapon, and there was no exchange of gunfire.
Video footage shows that the alleged suspect was unarmed and non-resistant when law enforcement shot him. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported among those present during the incident.
In consideration of the sensitivity of the situation, I can't emphasize the importance of respecting the privacy of the families that have been affected during this challenging time.
The Department of Public Safety has assured the public that a thorough investigation into the matter will be conducted by the Texas Rangers and the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office to ascertain the details surrounding the incident. As the investigation unfolds, updates will be provided.
