Florida Congressman Byron Donalds has joined a growing chorus of Republican officials demanding the resignation of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, amid allegations linking her to a covert romantic involvement with Nathan Wade, the private attorney appointed to prosecute former President Donald Trump on state racketeering charges.

Donalds expressed his strong disapproval on the January 20 episode of the “Megyn Kelly Show,” asserting that Willis should not only step down but also face disbarment in light of the scandalous accusations.

During his interview with Kelly, Donalds also specifically criticized Willis's January 14 speech at Atlanta’s Big Bethel AME Church, where she addressed the scandal a week after it surfaced in court documents, further claiming the allegations against her and Wade were racially motivated.

Byron Donalds vehemently disagreed.

During the segment, Donalds sharply stated:

“The Lord did not cause you to stumble into $600,000 in taxpayer money because you’re sleeping with the dude who’s the lead prosecutor. You thought you were gonna get away and so you tried to get the church’s money, that’s what happened here, and you got caught. It’s that simple.”

Donalds referred to the January 8 motion filed by former Republican campaign aide Michael Roman, a co-defendant of former President Donald Trump's in Georgia’s 2020 election interference case which was brought by Willis.

Roman alleged that Wade, a lead prosecutor in the case, received a significantly higher salary than other Fulton County prosecutors, totaling $654,000 in legal fees. Roman went on to claim that Wade used large portions of his salary to pay for extravagant vacations with Willis, constituting ethical and possibly even criminal violations.

Roman’s motion urged the judge to dismiss charges and disqualify Willis from pursuing the case against Trump. Donalds endorsed this position, emphasizing:

“Should this case be thrown out? It should because it is clear you have prosecutorial misconduct.”

Facing immediate pressure to resign from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Willis has been accused of criminal misconduct and an “illegal conflict of interest.” The scandal seriously jeopardizes the prosecutions against Trump and his bevy of co-defendants - including those who have already pleaded guilty to reduced charges, should a court of competent jurisdiction find the allegations against Willis and Wade to be substantiated by facts.

Legal experts argue that Willis’ credibility is at stake, potentially derailing her career as Fulton County’s lead prosecutor. Donalds also highlighted specific allegations in Roman’s petition, suggesting potential federal racketeering charges for Willis.

While Willis, in her 35-minute church speech, insisted that Wade is paid the same as other special prosecutors, Donalds dismissed her explanation, asserting that she is leveraging the Trump case for personal gain. He criticized her church address, stating:

“Don’t go into a Black church and say ‘oh, pray for me.’ You did wrong, and you know you did wrong.”

As the controversy unfolds, Willis has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations, promising a full response through appropriate court filings. Wade, who was appointed by Willis to handle the high-profile case, has become a focal point in the unfolding scandal, raising questions about the validity of the indictment against Trump and concerns over Willis’ professional ethics and conduct.
