Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is under pressure to initiate a criminal investigation into Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. The call for an inquiry stems from allegations that Willis had an "improper" relationship with a special prosecutor involved in the election interference case against Donald Trump.

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a staunch supporter of the former president, filed a complaint on Wednesday, urging the governor's office to launch an investigation into Willis based on claims made by an attorney for Michael Roman, a co-defendant in Willis' RICO probe alongside Trump and over a dozen others.

According to Roman's lawyer, Ashleigh Merchant, Willis stands accused of engaging in an "improper, clandestine personal relationship" with Nathan Wade--the special prosecutor hired for the Trump investigation. The allegations include instances of Wade and Willis going on vacations together while actively working on the case.

Merchant also contends that Willis hired Wade for the case without the required county approval, seeking the dismissal of the charges against Roman as a consequence. That initial filing also alleges that some, or all of the $650,000+ Wade has been paid by Fulton County for his role in the election interference cases was both exorbitant for the job, and not in line with Wade's credentials having never prosecuted a felony case before in his career.

In Greene's letter to Governor Kemp and Georgia Attorney General Christopher Carr, she emphasizes the need for an investigation into the allegations, claiming that Willis "illegally hired her secret boyfriend" to work on a politically charged investigation against Trump and others.

Expressing her concern, Greene asserts that Willis has engaged in an "unlawful partisan pattern" to politicize her office for the purpose of interfering in the 2024 presidential election, potentially enriching herself and her alleged secret boyfriend in the process.

A spokesperson for Kemp's office responded to Greene's complaint, stating:

"These allegations are deeply troubling and evidence should be presented quickly. Georgians need to be able to have confidence in this trial and the Georgia General Assembly laid out a specific process to investigate matters such as these.
"The Congresswoman has every right to refer her complaint to the oversight commission once it commences full operations. The Congresswoman has every right to refer her complaint to the oversight commission once it commences full operations."

Roman, a former White House aide to Trump, has pleaded not guilty to seven counts in the Georgia case. Trump, the current frontrunner in the 2024 Republican primary race, also pleaded not guilty to 13 charges, consistently characterizing Willis's actions as a politically motivated "witch hunt" aimed at impeding his electoral prospects.

Despite the allegations surrounding Willis and Wade, a few legal experts still suggest that the merits and viability of the election interference case against Trump and his codefendants should remain intact, separate from the presumed relationship between Willis and Wade. They argue that the decision-making process for prosecuting the case should be deemed unrelated to any potential conflicts of interest or improprieties, alleged or real, by the prosecutors.
