Local authorities have arrested and charged two individuals in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on New Year's Eve at 5900 Clarewood Drive. The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Robert Miguel Pena and 21-year-old Eduardo Alvarez, both residents of Houston, Texas, are now facing murder charges in the 263rd State District Court.
The victim, a 20-year-old male, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a light pole at the specified address. Upon arriving at the scene, officers and paramedics discovered that the victim had sustained gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, the victim was pronounced dead on January 2 after being transported to a local hospital.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Duncan and Detective J. Wallschlaeger provided details on the incident, highlighting the tragic circumstances surrounding the shooting. The identity of the victim named in court documents is still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Law enforcement identified Pena and Alvarez as the primary suspects in the case. On January 11, officers from the HPD South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team apprehended both suspects without incident. Subsequently, Pena and Alvarez were taken into custody and are currently held at the Harris County Jail, according to court records.
Court documents show that both defendants alleged that they were acting in self-defense. However, the true motive behind the fatal shooting and the relationship between the suspects and the deceased victim remain under investigation. Local authorities are urging anyone with additional information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.
