Family Dispute in Orcutt ends in Officer Involved Shooting

Deputies with the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in the 800-block of Blake Street in Orcutt for a report of a family disturbance. Deputies learned that the male suspect brandished a firearm during the argument. Deputies contacted the suspect by telephone and was uncooperative and threatened to shoot at deputies.

Patrol Deputies secured the area and requested assistance from the Santa Barabara Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Team (SET), SBSO K9 Units, Santa Barbara County Air Support, California Highway Patrol, and a drone team from Santa Maria Police Department. Members of the SET arrived to the scene with armored vehicles and began attempting to deescalate the subject while deputies applied for and received a search warrant to enter the residence.

While members of the SET were awaiting to serve the search warrant the subject continued to yell at deputies and walk in and out of the residence. During one of the enocunters, an officer involved shooting occured. The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.

The involved deputies were unharmed. The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office Detectives will investigate officer involved shooting.
