Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Chase near Los Alamos

A man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after leading officers on a high-speed pursuit.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the area of Rucker Road and Harris Grade Road outside of Lompoc for a report of a man hitting female near a white vehicle. A passerby reported that it appeared a male subject was hitting a female subject near the vehicle which was parked along side the road. Before the deputies could arrive, the vehicle left the area. Deputies began searching the area and a deputy located the vehicle on Harris Grade Road headed towards Highway 135.

The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop of the vehicle, but the vehicle fled, passing multiple cars on the wrong side of the road. The suspect then turned South onto Highway 135 where he continued to flee at speeds over 100mph and continued passing cars in oncoming lanes of traffic. A SBSO Watch Commander advised deputies pursuing to terminate their pursuit. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit responded to attempt to locate the vehicle and California Highway Patrol was made aware of the chase.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol located the vehicle on Highway 101 just outside Los Alamos where they observed it continue to flee at high speeds. Officers lost visual of the suspect vehicle shortly after but converged on the area the vehicle was last seen.

A K-9 Officer with CHP located the vehicle parked off the road in bushes on the Solomon Road off ramp and detained the driver and a female passenger.

Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrived and took custody of the suspect and took the report for the initial battery call they were dispatched to.

It is unknown what charges the suspect faces at this time. He is presumed innocent.
