The van was the only vehicle involved in the collision and there were two Sheriff Deputies and two Inmates on board. The Deputies were uninjured while the two inmates were transported to an area hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

The location of the accident is near the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Northern Branch Jail and inmates are normally shuttled along this route.

After firefighters from Santa Barbara County Fire Department stabilized the vehicle, they began working to move a mailbox that was pinning the side door closed. Once firefighters were able to remove the mailbox, they removed one inmate on a backboard while the other inmate walked to the ambulance.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident and no other information is available at this time.
