Florida Governor Ron DeSantis assured Iowans that if he wins the 2024 Republican nomination, he will fulfill the pledges made in 2016 by former President Donald Trump, one of his competitors.

DeSantis spoke to the audience about the conservative accomplishments he had as governor of Florida, citing measures like outlawing sanctuary cities and enacting a six-week abortion ban that was inspired by an Iowa statute.

DeSantis asserted that he had demonstrated as governor that he would "deliver on 100% of my promises" and that Trump, who is now leading by a significant margin in polls conducted both nationally and in Iowa, had failed to implement the policies he had promised to do during the 2016 presidential campaign.

He cited Trump's election-year pledge to "build the wall" along the southern border of the United States and have Mexico foot the bill for its construction.

DeSantis claimed that during a rally in Iowa earlier in October, when the former president claimed there was no "legal mechanism" to make Mexico pay for the construction of a wall, Trump discussed his concept for a border wall.

DeSantis chastised Trump for changing his mind in 2024.

"He was saying the wall would get higher or whatever. But here's the thing … you actually can get Mexico to pay if you know how to use your authority," DeSantis said.

The governor of Florida announced that he would impose a fee on all funds moved from the United States to Mexico or other nations where immigrants are coming from. This fee would be used for a border wall between the United States and Mexico.

The Florida governor also made sure to draw attention to a connection to Iowa: He said that as a boy, he obtained a signature from a Major League Baseball player from Van Meter, Bob Feller

He compared DeSantis' decision to enlist in the military after the 9/11 attacks 2001 to Feller's decision to do the same after the Japanese invasion of Pearl Harbor.

Who do you think has the stronger 2024 vision for America: DeSantis pledging to fulfill Trump's promises, or Trump's leadership in polls?
