According to the American Red Cross, they are experiencing one of the worst blood shortages in over a decade. This is not something anyone wants to hear, especially with the current fires and tornados that have rocked the nation, and let's not forget that we are still in a pandemic. Due to this major shortage and the organization's need to help those in the country that are experiencing serious illnesses and medical issues, the American Red Cross is asking the community to help.

The requirements for blood donations are posted on the American Red cross website. Participants must be at least 110 pounds and feel well. Most states require donors to be sixteen-years-old or older as well. A donor can donate whole blood up to six times per year, and there is an area on the website to request an appointment. Donations can take approximately one hour to do, and all blood types are needed.

The American Red Cross uses the blood donations to help a variety of people. According to their website, blood donations can help those with leukemia, trauma patients, burn patients, those with chronic diseases, people with Sickle Cell Anemia, and organ transplant patients. This can give a person that may not have been doing well a new lease on life.

Blood donations are in high need at this point. We still need these donations to take care of those that are ill, and the American Red Cross is currently in need of donors. Without these donations, someone may not get the help that he or she needs, so if you are interested in donating, feel free to check out the American Red Cross website. You can find a blood drive near you and schedule an appointment at your convenience.
