Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a presidential aspirant, criticized former President Donald Trump for skipping the second GOP primary debate.

DeSantis told Trump that Joe Biden's basement approach would not work against the Democrats.

"With all due respect to Donald Trump, we're not going to beat the Democrats by adopting Joe Biden's basement strategy," the Florida governor said.

DeSantis added that Trump must show up and win voters' support.

"You can't just be missing in action. You got to show up, you got to earn people's votes. And if you're not willing to do that, voters will take notice as we get closer to these contests," DeSantis said.

DeSantis mentioned Biden's campaign during the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Due to social-distancing rules, Biden held many campaign events at his house, particularly in the basement.

Trump is the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination, according to surveys.

His absence from debates and the fact that he is the focus of numerous criminal accusations and investigations did not affect his standing in the latest surveys.

He was 42 percentage points ahead of DeSantis according to the RealClearPolitics.com average of many polls.

DeSantis claims that because of his outreach efforts, Republicans have the best chance of defeating Biden in the 2024 election.

"You show up. You make the case. You don't mail it in, you don't go missing in action. You meet voters on the ground in the early states, Iowa, New Hampshire in particular, and tell them about the country's future and why you're the best candidate," he said.

DeSantis added that he is the most competent person for the presidency and has been the most dependable leader of the Republicans.

“I've been the most dependable leader the Republican Party's had in recent years. I've delivered. I haven't just talked, and that's what we need in Washington. The time for excuses is over," DeSantis said.

What's your take on DeSantis challenging Trump to show up for the debates?
