I love a good hot dog. I've had some of the best hot dogs at Dog House Grill, but I miss a good ole foot-long dog and finally had one last week at, of all places, Sonic.

Was it good? Yes.

Did it meet my expectations? It went beyond

The Scoop

Let me give you the details, let's start at home. About a week ago, our son and his fiance came in and told us that Sonic was having a special on foot-long hot dogs that night for $1.99.

Patti and I were intrigued as we sat there listening to them brag about their hot dogs and bringing them out in the open to show us.

The hot dogs were definitely foot-long hot dogs topped with chili, cheese, and onions.

I hadn't had a foot-long since I. moved here from New York City. I remember going to Coney Island to get a great foot-long on a steamed bun with chili and cheese, no onions.

I know onions probably make it better, but I'm not into onions, so off with the onions and add more chili if possible. In New York, it was possible; I didn't know if that would fly here in Fresno. We will find out.

Patti and I decided for $1.99, it was worth a try. The kids kept bragging about how good their hot dog was, making us hungry even though the thought of Sonic and hot dogs didn't fit in our brain. I mean, how good could they be?

The Foot-Longs

Patti and I left on our journey to Sonic on Herndon Avenue in Clovis. We've been to this Sonic before and enjoyed the food, but sometimes it could be greasier than other places, so we stayed away, trying to be health conscience. That's a laugh.

On this night, though, the thought of a foot-long hot dog excited me, and I convinced Patti we should go, especially if we could get a deal.

We ordered the foot-longs and told them no onions. They were ready and passed them to us through the take-out window within minutes. I could smell the chili on them from within their packaging.

Let me explain. They were packed inside a clear top bag that was a little bigger than the foot-long and held a hot dog in a cardboard tray with a spoon and plenty of topping. There was enough chili and cheese for a meal in itself, and it wasn't bad chili, either. I was impressed, as was Patti.

Those two $1.99 hot dogs were right up there with the hot dogs I ordered at Dog House Grill. No offense to Dog House Grill, but they need some foot-longs on their menu.

Anyway, I recommend you go the next time Sonic has a special night offering foot-longs for $1.99. Even if they aren't on special, the foot-longs at SOnic are worth the trip.

Buon Appetito!

Mark & Patti
