Jamel Sharp of Slidell, LA has been arrested by the NOPD for his involvement in a hit-and-run crash that occurred on May 28, 2023, at the intersection of Canal Street and Saint Charles Avenue.
NOPD officers responded to a call of an auto theft in the 800 block of Canal Street where Sharp reported that his vehicle was stolen. Officers located a vehicle matching the description of Sharp's vehicle that had crashed into a business window at the intersection of Canal Street and Saint Charles Avenue.
NOPD Eighth District detectives developed and positively identified Sharp as the driver of the vehicle in this incident. It was also determined that Sharp falsely reported that his vehicle had been stolen.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sharp for filing a false police report, for hit-and-run driving, and for reckless operation of a vehicle. Sharp surrendered to Eighth District officers without incident on June 5 and was arrested and booked accordingly into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
