Campaign season is officially kicking off as DeSantis entered the race for the Republican nomination to challenge Joe Biden for the presidency. The two men have exchanged a few unkind words over the past couple of months as Super PACS supporting each candidate have launched political attack ads.

In March, Trump slammed DeSantis, saying, "He can't win," on live TV.

After the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021, DeSantis managed to beat Trump in a few polls. But lately, over the last few months, DeSantis has been sliding back to his all-time lows.

Now, a recent poll conducted in the state of Maine has revealed a significant gap between the two presidential candidates in terms of popularity among Republican voters.

The survey, which assessed voter preferences in Maine, indicates a substantial 32-point lead for Trump over DeSantis. This article explores the implications of this poll, examining the potential factors behind the disparity and what it could mean for DeSantis' political future.

As A.G. Gancarski writes for Florida Politics:

The former President commands 59% support, well ahead of DeSantis’ 27%. Former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming’s 10% is good for third place. Former Vice President Mike Pence (5%) and former United Nations envoy Nikki Haley (3%) round out the top five.
Trump is ahead of DeSantis with both Republican registrants and independents who plan to vote in the GOP Primary. The former President leads with Republicans, 45% to 19%. With independents, Trump takes 14% of the total pool, with DeSantis commanding 8% of that group.

He goes on to explain that DeSantis is struggling hard in New England generally, though polls from earlier this year showed Trump slaughtering DeSantis in Georgia and South Carolina as well.

The news isn't good for our Governor. If he seriously intends to win the presidency, he's going to have to figure out a new way to win over the hearts and minds of Republican voters, supposing he even can. What do you think?
