Akron, OH - Yesterday, Jason Conrad, an inmate who had escaped custody, was apprehended by law enforcement officials. The incident occurred while Conrad was being transported by a Summit County Sheriff's Deputy to a medical appointment near White Pond Ave. and Interstate 77. Conrad managed to escape and flee into a nearby wooded area. Multiple law enforcement agencies were called in to assist in the search throughout the day and night.
The investigation was handed over to the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) later that day. The task force followed up on various leads and conducted several interviews in an effort to locate Conrad.
This morning, the task force received a tip that Conrad was traveling on a bike in the area of Aqueduct St. and Market St. Officers from the task force, Akron Police Department, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol aviation unit responded to the area. After a brief foot pursuit, Conrad was spotted on the train tracks and taken into custody.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Safety in the communities we serve is one of the most important parts of our jobs. Knowing this fugitive is off the streets makes the city of Akron a safer place and the U.S. Marshals Service will not give up searching until fugitives like this are behind bars.”
