Meteorologist Darren Peck shared an unconventional weather forecast for the Memorial Day weekend on Sunday night. He described the region's persistent gray skies as experiencing a 'Tupperware' effect. This unusual weather pattern is due to an area of low pressure situated directly over the region, causing clouds to linger longer than usual.

Peck clarified that this phenomenon differs from the typical May Gray, as it has been influenced by the low-pressure system. A complex of thunderstorms was observed in Mendocino County, which proved to be more impressive than initially expected. These storms had minimal impact on Sonoma County but brought light showers to Napa Valley and the Bottle Rock area.

In the next few hours, Peck anticipates light showers to persist in Napa Valley, subsiding by the end of the night. The low-pressure system's influence is expected to diminish by Memorial Day, allowing a more standard weather pattern to resume. Although the day will likely begin with gray skies, the marine layer should retreat by late morning, revealing clearer, bluer skies.

Despite the absence of significant warming, Memorial Day should bring more blue skies and sunshine, except in the city where gray skies may continue. Daytime highs will reach the low 70s in warmer inland areas, mid-60s in most locations, and around 70 in the North Bay. These temperatures are considered below average for this time of year, with some regions experiencing a 5-10 degree decrease compared to the norm.

Peck's 7-day forecast projects a gradual increase in temperatures by next weekend. Memorial Day will see temperatures in the 60s in the city, while inland locations can expect a pleasant day, despite cooler-than-average weather. The North Bay Valleys are predicted to reach 71 degrees on Memorial Day, climbing to 80 by Friday. Meanwhile, San Jose will experience temperatures in the low 70s, increasing to mid-70s over the weekend.
