A daring carjacking in New Orleans set off a high-speed chase extending into St. Bernard and culminating in the capture of three suspects. The female victim, who was outside her Broadmoore home at the time, stated that the suspect was armed with a rifle as he approached her.

She observed a pickup truck parked across the street on the 3800 block of Louisiana Avenue. Shortly after, a masked individual emerged from the truck, brandishing a rifle. Fearing for her life, the woman obeyed the armed assailant's command to leave her car, taking her purse with her.

Police later sighted two of the suspects, 18-year-old Cairen Jones and 19-year-old Jacob Jones, driving the stolen Jeep near the Desire housing development. A third suspect, 19-year-old Diamond Eugene, was also detained following a foot chase. Jacob was found carrying an AK-47, while Cairen possessed a handgun.

The pursuit persisted as the suspects crossed into St. Bernard Parish. Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann reported that at least 24 units responded to the incident, with deputies pursuing Diamond Eugene from Chalmette to Meraux and back to Chalmette. The suspect's vehicle was immobilized using spike strips, and Eugene continued to flee on foot, armed with an AR-style weapon. He eventually discarded the weapon and was apprehended after climbing a fence on Lyndell Drive.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the blue pickup truck involved in the Louisiana Avenue carjacking had been stolen during an earlier carjacking in St. Tammany Parish on Monday. All three suspects are now in custody with bonds amounting to over $245,000. The victim voiced her concerns about the city's safety, remarking that New Orleans feels different in the aftermath of Covid-19.
