(ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS) As May comes to a close, and the likes of Mother's Day, Cinco De Mayo, and Dance Like a Chicken Day are behind us, it is time to get excited for the most important day of the month. I am, of course, talking about the international celebration of World Otter Day!

Once a rare sighting in Massachusetts, Otters have been making a steady comeback due to sustainable harvest practices, better wetland conservation, and pollution control. These athletic and playful creatures can be an absolute joy to observe in their natural habitats of lakes, rivers, and coastal habitats.

What Is World Otter Day?

Each year on the last Wednesday of May, the world celebrates otters, one of Earth's most charming and entertaining mammals. This event, which started in 2014, is dedicated to educating the public on the 13 different species of otters and the challenges they face. It is a day to share knowledge, raise awareness, and promote the protection of these fascinating creatures.

Celebrate at the Capron Park Zoo!

The Capron Park Zoo, a wonderful family attraction of Southern New England, will be celebrating its two otters, Emmet and Rio! These North American River Otters are a dynamic duo that are sure to delight. The event is free with admission into the park and will include keeper chats, otter enrichment, fun activities, and more.
