Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or so it is said. So too may be degrees of excitement and boredom.
While there are many people who love living in the state of Idaho for its strong family connections, various offerings of outdoor recreation, and quiet way of life, others have been quite vocal about why they consider the state so incredibly boring.
Being born and raised in the state myself, I can see both sides of the equation clearly, but here is what some have said.
This story by Chris Kolmer published last December ranking the "10 Most Boring States In America" created quite the buzz across the internet and social media sites:
These are the states where your grandpa will fit right in talking about how life used to be back in the slower, good ol’ days of their youth."
This might not seem like such a bad thing to some but according to this article Idaho garnered an amazing top spot on the snooze list for just such reasons. Idaho's high population of people over the age of 60 and high statistics of married people with kids make it quite boring, so says the author.
However, one must also consider that the article seems to equate excitement with "parties on the beach to bars open all night." So, the average person living in Idaho might not be so upset about this distinction.
Other states that made the list include the surrounding states of Wyoming, Montana, and Utah.
This recently published story by Zobia Shazi of "10 of the Most Boring States in the U.S. According to Americans" gave Idaho a slightly better ranking. The Gem State only came in number 9 on the website's list of most boring states behind Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska, the latter of which came in number 1.
Having driven through Nebraska a number of times myself, I'm in agreement here.
The reason Idaho made this list is that it has been perceived by some to be uninteresting and the "supreme monarch of boredom" due to being sparsely populated and often devoid of a good internet connection.
Hmm, seems like rather petty reasons now don't they?
Conclusion
As mentioned, just because some have deemed your chunk of paradise to be boring doesn't mean it actually may be. It's only someone else's opinion after all. I myself have had plenty of fun and adventure in Idaho.
