Seemingly ordinary and somewhat picturesque during the daytime, many of Texas' haunted places can be hard to spot at first. However, upon further investigation and attention to local legend, these areas suddenly tell a different story.

While many regard the Light of Saratoga as being the most haunted road, very few are familiar with the haunting within the state's largest city, Houston.

If you live in the area, you're probably already familiar with Patterson Road–a two-mile-long stretch of road located within the Addicks Park Ten neighborhood.

During the Civil War, multiple battles took place on Patterson Road. One legend suggests a pro-union German settlement was attacked by Confederate troops while another claims two disorganized militias fought here until only a few remained.

No matter which theory you believe, there's no denying the strange presence that remains to this day if you decide to visit at night.

Over the years, visitors have reported several different disturbing tales that range from apparition sightings to hearing gentle taps on their car windows while driving down the road.

For the bravest among us, it's been rumored that if you stop your car on Langham Creek Bridge and turn off your headlights you'll hear what sounds like knuckles striking your vehicle, almost as if to warn the passengers inside of the imminent danger that lurks.

Whether or not you believe in ghosts, Patterson Road remains an eerie place that very few will venture down alone at night.
