Lexus wedged under semi trailer in fatal Aurora crash on interstate

A Lexus was wedged under a semi during a fatal crash in Aurora, Colorado, according to the Aurora Police Department.

“The Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred late Saturday night, March 25, on Interstate 225,” police wrote in the news release, which they posted to their Facebook page.

According to the Aurora police release, the officers “responded to a crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 225 near the E. Mississippi Ave exit about 10:50 p.m. The subsequent investigation revealed a Lexus sedan was traveling southbound on I-225 at a high rate of speed.”

The driver of the Lexus was not named.

“The man driving the Lexus attempted to pass another vehicle on the right shoulder when it lost control. The man drove up the right grass embankment before veering back onto the roadway, then being wedged under the trailer of a semi,” according to the police.

“The 58-year-old man driving the Lexus was pronounced deceased on scene and will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the semi was not injured,” the release continues.

It says that southbound Interstate 225 “was closed for more than six hours for the investigation. The roadway was reopened shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday.”

According to the Aurora Police Department, the death was one of a 2023 traffic fatalities in Aurora, Illinois, so far this year.

“This is the 10th traffic-related fatality this year in Aurora,” the Aurora Police Department’s news release said of the trend.
