On April 30, 2017, 34-year-old Keir Johnson called her mother and told her she was going to take her 8-month-old baby, Chloe, to Buckroe Beach to spend the day with a friend. The beach was only a 4-minute drive from Keir's home in Hampton, Virginia, however, according to the unnamed friend, they never arrived.
Although Keir and Chloe were reported missing the next day, a search did not begin immediately. The authorities did not believe they were in danger after learning that Keir had taken a week off from her job at Smithfield Foods, a packing plant. Chloe's father, Carlos Johnson Jr., claimed he last saw Keir and Chloe on April 29th. He has never been named a POI in the case, in fact, no one has.
An Amber Alert was not sent out until May 11th. Three days later, Keir's black 2013 Kia Optima was found abandoned in a trailer park in Newport News, roughly 10 miles from Buckroe Beach. The trailer park was searched and scent-sniffing dogs were deployed, however, nothing was found.
Keir's twin sister, Teir Pettway, believes that Keir and Chloe were harmed by someone they trusted.
