DC - If you're visiting Washington, DC, during spring, there's no better time to enjoy the stunning beauty of Yoshino cherry trees in full bloom than during their peak period between March and April. During this captivating display, millions of these pink-hued trees line Tidal Basin and Washington Monument yearly.

The Tidal Basin is the most popular location to view cherry blossoms, but there are plenty of other stunning spots where you can appreciate these delicate blooms. While many visitors flock to the National Mall and Tidal Basin, you can get even better views by exploring other parts of Baltimore and its atmosphere from different vantage points.

Why the Tidal Basin Is a Popular Spot to View Cherry Blossoms

This 10-foot-deep reservoir on the Potomac River and Washington Channel is home to thousands of stunning cherry trees that create an exquisite sight during cherry blossom season. Their soft whitish-pink hue and delicate almond scent cast a halo of radiance around Tidal Basin and nearby monuments like the Washington Monument or Jefferson Memorial.

Around the Tidal Basin are plenty of spots to view cherry blossom blooms from. Popular viewing locations include the National Mall and Washington Monument; to avoid crowds while still seeing these iconic sights, visit them early in the morning or at sunset for optimal viewing conditions.

What to Do During Cherry Blossom Season

From March 20 to April 16, the National Cherry Blossom Festival offers an array of special events and performances around town. On March 25, Japan presented us with a stone lantern as a token of their friendship - lighting it during the opening ceremony on that day.

Join the cherry blossom parade along Constitution Avenue on Saturday, April 2, from 8 a.m. to noon for free entertainment!

Take a leisurely walk along the Tidal Basin trail for a more sedate view of the cherry blossoms. This 2.1-mile loop is flat and takes you through trees so that you can appreciate their delicate beauty up close.

Where to Park for Cherry Blossom Viewing?

If it's too crowded at the National Mall and Tidal Basin, consider one of the many free parking lots nearby or other public spaces around town. However, remember that many spots at these locations fill up well before peak bloom time - so reserve your spot now!

Experience a Cherry Blossom Bike Tour

If you'd prefer to ride your bicycle instead of taking the bus, Capitol Bikeshare offers dockless bikes and electric scooters for rent. Be sure to download their app beforehand to view all available bikes and scooters.
