High-profile House committee chairs Monday sent Bragg a letter they wrote jointly.

On Monday, the Republican chairmen of the House Judiciary, Oversight, and Administration committees sent a letter to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The letter requested testimony and documents related to the investigation and potential indictment of former President Donald Trump.

This marks the first action taken by Republican House committees in response to Trump's recent statement that he expects to be indicted this week. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy also announced plans to use committees to investigate the potential indictment and determine if federal funding was involved. The joint letter was signed by House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, and House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil.

"You are reportedly about to engage in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority: the indictment of a former President of the United States and currently declared candidate for that office," the letter reads.

On Monday, Jordan spoke to ABC News and stated that he does not think Trump violated any laws. He also described the potential indictment as highly unusual. When asked if he had any evidence to support his suspicion that federal funds were used in a local investigation, Jordan admitted that he did not have any and that was the reason for the inquiry.

At the House Republicans' retreat in Orlando, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy expressed his opinion during a press conference on Sunday evening that protesting in response to any possible future indictment of Trump is not advisable.

"I don't think people should protest, no," McCarthy said when asked if he condones Trump's call to protest concerning it made over Truth Social.

McCarthy added, "We want calmness out there" and "no violence," but he refrained from directly criticizing Trump for using language similar to that which he did before January 6.

McCarthy responded, "The Constitution allows him to," when asked if he thought it was still appropriate for Trump to run if he were to be found guilty of a crime.
