When does a marriage become hopeless?

Unwillingness to communicate is a major warning sign that it may be time to end a marriage. No matter how much effort you put in, your partner just won't get involved.

When one spouse is fed up enough to cut off all communication, it is called an emotional divorce. In most cases, the spouse will become indifferent to both their partner and the relationship at this point.

In a recent article, a woman's heartbreak over her husband's apparent self-destruction and disconnection from their marriage brought attention to this problem. Worst case, she learns he spent the night with his ex-wife.

Using the name Lonnie, she explained that she had dropped her husband off at his daughter's house so that he could retrieve an item he had left there, and that she had to rush off to a dealership to retrieve a part for her sister's truck that had come loose while they were borrowing it. Lonnie's husband urged her to wait for him, but doing so would have prevented her from making it to the dealership before they closed. Lonnie assured him that she would return to get him.

As this was Lonnie's first visit to her husband's daughter's home, she was unfamiliar with the place and had trouble finding her way back. She decided to call her husband for help, but he was rude to her and then hung up on her.

Lonnie then tried calling her husband's daughter to get more specific directions, but the daughter said that everyone was asleep because it was Saturday night at 8:30. Lonnie's husband ignored her calls, so she had her sister give him a ring.

He answered her, and she let him know that Lonnie was waiting for him at a Safeway that was somewhat near where he was. If he was coming home, he needed to go there, and Lonnie waited over an hour before going back home because he did not show up. He ended up staying there for almost a week and wouldn't answer his phone most of the time, or if he did, he was a real jerk and rude. Later, Lonnie found out that his ex-wife was also there and spending the night. He also blew off his job and lost it as well.

I feel like he ended the marriage with the choices he made and he shouldn't expect me to want to remain in this relationship. He keeps justifying it, claiming they did nothing wrong. I just want out at this point. Lonnie said

What do you think of the wife situation? Should divorce be considered?
