I currently make 49k in the southern US. In my line of work, they pay pretty much the same, maybe a few thousand more in Chicago. So around 52-53.

If I were to live with one roommate is this doable? I am only accustomed to the cost of living down here.

MobileMasterpiece615: Certainly doable. A friend of mine lives here making barely 34k yearly. He lives with one roommate and a dog so it definitely something you can do. If you live in the right neighborhood you can have access to affordable food and recreational activities to make life more fun. No need to make cut backs. If you just coming in, welcome to Chicago!
PageSide84: Definitely doable. Hell, you could probably live on your own for that. With a roommate, you'd be doing more than fine.
shredmiyagi: Easily man. Chicago's trendy areas are pricey these days, like any city... but you can rent apartments in neighborhoods like Rogers Park for $1000-1200 easily, usually decently nice. I'd say it's easier to find cheap and quality rent in Chicago, than any other big city. Also you can probably get away without a car, and save that myriad of expenses. If you’re looking for newly updated, central air, hip area, it will be more in 2k range.
Wild472: My income is around 45-50k, my monthly expenses are ~1500-1600$, so I save. To live low income life I’d probably manage it at 1200$ per month.

All advice is welcome. Thanks!
