We have already had an impressive display of full moons this year. However, as we begin the final quarter of this month, we are in for yet another display of cosmic beauty via the Harvest Moon.

NATIONAL | On Sept. 10, 2022, The full moon of September, better known as the Harvest Moon, will be visible to gazers around the world. The Harvest Moon obtains its peculiar name due to its close proximity to the Autumnal Equinox and the fact that this full moon stays vibrant for several nights and begins its ascent into the sky sooner than normal after sunset. This combination of early rising and vibrant radiance was a great aid for farmers who used the extra illumination to harvest their summer crops. Aptly resulting in the name of the Harvest Moon, according to Almanac.com.

When Can the Harvest Moon be Seen?

According to Space.com, the moon will be officially “full” to stargazers located in New York City at 6:30 am on Sept. 10 but will appear full to the naked eye the following and preceding evenings at 7:45 pm.
