Ashley May and her three children moved into a Kimberton farmhouse two weeks ago after her husband’s sudden death last month, writes Vinny Vella for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Then another tragedy struck. The family lost most of their belongings on Saturday in a fire that ripped through the barn where May had stored most of their possessions while they renovated the home. Thankfully, the many animals rescued by the family survived.
After learning about the unfortunate incident, the community May had just started to connect with rallied to help her start over.
Many volunteers and friends have been visiting May since the fire, dropping off home-cooked meals, clothes for her children, and even supplies for animals. Neighbors she had not met yet dropped off $150 gift cards to help with finishing the work on the farmhouse.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up that has already raised over $7,000 for the family.
“It’s hard for me to accept help; I’ve never done that,” said May. “But the genuine amount of love and concern is the most amazingly refreshing thing I could ever, ever imagine.”
