A woman in New Jersey was fatally shot this week during a domestic incident with her boyfriend.
Officers responded to a 911 call early Monday morning. When they arrived, they found the body of the victim at her home on the 1000 block of Iowa Avenue. Responders were not able to revive her. She died moments after midnight.
According to prosecutors, Lamar Pitts, 36, was arrested and charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend, 30-year-old Jazmen Martin-Richardson, at her Pleasantville home on Monday morning.
Pitts was charged with aggravated manslaughter, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to have weapons and receiving stolen property.
Pitts is also facing charges stemming from an incident in Pleasantville a week prior to Martin-Richardson's death.
Pitts is currently being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
"I want to credit the Pleasantville Police Department the ACPO Major Crimes Unit for the swift identification and apprehension of the suspect in this matter," Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill said. "While we cannot always prevent acts of senseless violence, we take all necessary actions to identify, arrest and prosecute individuals who commit heinous crimes to the fullest extent of the law."
