Delaware County ranks among the most generous places in Pennsylvania, according to a recent study by SmartAsset.

This is SmartAsset’s fourth annual study of the most generous places in the United States. Delaware County placed third for Pennsylvania in generosity.

The study looked at how much money people donate as a percentage of their net income. It also examined the proportion of people in each county who make charitable donations.

Delaware County received a charitable index of 37.28, just behind Montgomery County. It was listed as the second most generous county in Pennsylvania, with an index of 43.2. Taking first was Chester County, with a charitable index of 44.65. Coming up from behind in fourth place was Bucks County, at 37.01.

According to the study, Delaware County residents gave 1.42% of their income as charitable contributions. The percentage of tax returns itemizing charitable contributions was 12.31%.

By comparison, Chester County residents gave 1.38% of their income to charities and had 15.57% of tax returns with itemized charitable contributions.

Montgomery County residents gave 1.69% of their income to charities and had 14.1% of tax returns with itemized charitable contributions.
