Danileigh sat down for an interview where she spoke candidly about her "toxic" relationship with North Carolina rapper, DaBaby.

The former couple went viral last year following a heated encounter which led to the singer's arrest.

During the livestream, DaBaby accused her of being crazy and dismissed her status in his life as simply a "side chick," despite going very public. They also share an infant daughter.

And although most of social media slammed the rapper for calling the police on the mother of his son and for calling her a "side chick," the police slapped Danileigh with two charges of simple assault.

"It was very triggering, and very sad," DaniLeigh told Angie Martinez in an interview premiered by People. "I wish it didn't happen because I don't want my baby to see that later on in life. But she'll grow to be her own person and to be able to take things in."

Danileigh also disputed the rapper's claims that their relationship was not serious.

"Me and Baby had … been together for about like, three years on and off," DaniLeigh told Martinez. "It was toxic. You know, we had our really good times."

She explained that they were "in love," but when he started to have "his little mess-ups and stuff," they would split and then reconcile. "We broke up a lot. There was a lot of on and offs," she added. "During that time, I definitely wasn't his side piece."

In the interview, she addressed her "Yellow Bone" single which was perceived by many to be a diss towards DaBaby's dark-skinned ex.

She acknowledged that she made a "horrible mistake" even though it "was a hard time."

Initially, she was defensive. But as the backlash continued to roll on, Danileigh eventually attempted to issue a sincere apology.

"I think people twisted it into thinking, like, I'm trying to bash another woman, another skin tone, that was never my intention. I wasn't brought up like that, I never looked at my skin as a privilege. I never looked at me as 'I'm better than somebody because of my skin tone," she said at the time.

Her apology did little to quiet the uproar.

"It was definitely a learning lesson for me, and I just want to say to everybody I'm super sorry," she said. "To even speak on skin tone, like, I realized how like messed up that is now."

Meme, DaBaby's ex, responded to Danileigh's new interview:
