Lumberton Raiders qualify for state track and field

LEAGUE CITY — Lumberton advanced to state after a third-place finish at the Class 4A Region 3 Championships. The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet. The UIL staff added a ninth qualifier — a rule change approved by the Legislative Council in 2009.

KINGSVILLE — Whitley Carter won the long jump with a mark of 18 feet and 5.25 inches, and reached state as a freshman.

Kountze Lionettes capture bi-district title

The Kountze Lionettes beat the Pollok Central Lady Bulldogs 12-5. The Lionettes will face the New Waverly Lady Bulldogs in 3A area playoff action. The Lady Bulldogs blanked Brazos, 12-0, in bi-district action.

Lady Longhorns sweep Lumberton in softball

The Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns won the first two games of a best of three series, 11-1 and 5-2. The Lumberton Lady Raiders struggled at the plate as they managed just one hit. The Lady Longhorns took advantage of seven errors by Lumberton. Katy Sanders took the win with a one-hitter.
