Lower Providence-based waste service company J.P. Mascaro & Sons are donating $1 million to over 100 tuition-based elementary and secondary schools and other organizations that support education, writes Donna Rovins for The Mercury.

The company donated to 59 schools and organizations in Berks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties. Other donations were made to various schools in the Delaware Valley, Lehigh Valley, and Scranton area as well.

According to the director of government affairs for J.P. Mascaro & Sons, Bill Fox, the company has been making charitable donations for over 15 years.

“We have been successful in meeting our business projections, which enable us to meet our philanthropic projections as well,” said Fox.

The donation amounts range from $1,000 to $30,000, with the primary criteria that qualify an institution for a contribution being how much it’s needed.

Fox explained that the founders of J.P. Mascaro & Sons didn’t have much education, but felt a strong appreciation for its importance especially “as it relates to children and their future.”

The company president Pat Mascaro has the same philosophy now.

“Our company is in the position that we can, and quite frankly he feels we should make these sorts of contributions because as a company we have been very fortunate,” Fox said.
