A Black woman quit her job after recording two of her colleagues making derogatory remarks about her and Black people in general.

Janika Frimpong was working at Legal & General's headquarters in the City of London. She left her phone on record as she left to use the bathroom.

She was shocked by what she heard.

Frimpong's two colleagues can be heard saying, "Black people have a smell about them" and that they "don't wash their hair." She tweeted after the incident that she had quit her job, but not before putting the company on blast.

"I didn't want to bring this to Twitter. However I felt there was no other way to show everyone the racists and bullies @landg_group employ to represent them. I felt forced to quit my job with them today after I experienced racism and bullying on multiple occasions."

On the tape, the women remarked that Frimpong "has a smell about her, like a fried, oiled smell. Is it just me? It stresses me out."

They then speculate as to whether the smell is cocoa butter and that it could be mixed with hair gel.

"You know, some people smell clean and fresh - and some others...," one of the women says.

"You know Black people, they don't wash their hair," the other woman says.

Legal & General and facilities firm Mitie have both launched internal investigations into the incident.

"We are upset & saddened to hear about your experience," the insurance company tweeted in response to Frimpong's tweet. "The allegations are appalling & are not reflective of us or our culture. We have an internal investigation underway to identify all individuals concerned & we will do all we can to make sure this doesn't happen again."

The company added: "We have a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, racism and racial discrimination. While the allegation has been raised by an employee of a third party, we expect the same standards of behavior from them as we would our own employees."
